Abstract
Keselamatan penerbangan sangat dipengaruhi oleh kualitas pengambilan keputusan pilot atau Aeronautical Decision Making (ADM). Pada fase Private Pilot License (PPL), taruna penerbang mulai berlatih keterampilan teknis sekaligus membentuk pola pikir profesional. Namun, masih terbatas penelitian yang mendokumentasikan bagaimana pola pembelajaran instruktur dalam menanamkan ADM di sekolah penerbang Indonesia. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengeksplorasi pentingnya pola pembelajaran flight instructor dalam menanamkan ADM kepada taruna PPL di Politeknik Penerbangan Indonesia Curug. Pendekatan kualitatif studi kasus digunakan dengan teknik wawancara mendalam, observasi, dan dokumentasi, serta analisis data model Miles dan Huberman. Informan terdiri atas flight instructor PPL dan taruna fase PPL. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pola pembelajaran yang dominan meliputi scenario-based training, briefing dan debriefing reflektif, scaffolding, serta pemberian umpan balik kritis. Integrasi prinsip andragogi terlihat pada penyesuaian metode dengan karakteristik taruna sebagai pembelajar dewasa. Faktor pendukung meliputi kesiapan taruna, motivasi belajar, dan komunikasi instruktur yang efektif, sedangkan hambatan mencakup keterbatasan jam terbang dan ketiadaan standar baku penilaian ADM. Kesimpulannya, pola pembelajaran flight instructor berperan strategis dalam membentuk keterampilan ADM sejak tahap dasar, sehingga perlu dirancang lebih terstruktur dan konsisten.

Aviation safety is strongly influenced by the quality of pilot decision making, known as Aeronautical Decision Making (ADM). At the Private Pilot License (PPL) stage, student pilots begin to practice technical flying skills while simultaneously developing a professional mindset. However, research documenting how flight instructors cultivate ADM during pilot training in Indonesia remains limited. This study aims to explore the importance of instructional strategies employed by flight instructors in fostering ADM among PPL cadets at the Indonesian Aviation Polytechnic Curug. A qualitative case study approach was applied, utilizing in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation, with data analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model. Informants consisted of PPL flight instructors and student pilots at the PPL stage. The findings indicate that dominant instructional patterns include scenario-based training, reflective briefing and debriefing, scaffolding, and the provision of constructive feedback. The integration of andragogical principles is evident in the adjustment of teaching methods to the characteristics of student pilots as adult learners. Supporting factors include cadets’ readiness, learning motivation, and effective instructor communication, while barriers involve limited flight hours and the absence of standardized ADM assessment criteria. In conclusion, the instructional strategies of flight instructors play a strategic role in shaping ADM skills from the early training stage, requiring a more structured and consistent design.
