Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan mengeksplorasi dampak pelatihan terbang menggunakan pesawat single engine (SE) dan multi engine (ME) dalam periode yang bersamaan pada performa taruna penerbang di Politeknik Penerbangan Indonesia Curug (PPIC). Transisi pelatihan yang cepat antara kedua jenis pesawat diyakini menimbulkan tantangan kognitif dan teknis yang dapat memengaruhi kesiapan operasional taruna. Fokus penelitian diarahkan pada beban kerja mental, transfer keterampilan, pengambilan keputusan, dan persepsi instruktur terhadap performa taruna.
Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif deskriptif dengan teknik pengumpulan data melalui wawancara mendalam, observasi partisipatif, dan analisis dokumen seperti logbook dan lembar evaluasi performa. Subjek penelitian terdiri atas lima taruna dan empat instruktur penerbang yang telah menjalani atau mendampingi pelatihan SE dan ME dalam waktu periode yang bersamaan. Data dianalisis menggunakan teknik analisis tematik model Miles dan Huberman.
Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pelatihan antara SE dan ME dalam periode yang bersamaan berpotensi meningkatkan beban kognitif, terutama pada penggunaan checklist, penyesuaian prosedur, dan manuver kritis. Namun, metode ini juga mempercepat pembentukan kompetensi adaptif seperti situational awareness, manajemen risiko, dan pengambilan keputusan dalam konteks multi-tasking. Efektivitas pelatihan sangat dipengaruhi oleh strategi briefing, kualitas pengawasan, dan ketepatan transisi antar fase latihan.
Penelitian ini berkontribusi pada pengembangan strategi pelatihan berbasis kompetensi yang mempertimbangkan aspek human factors dan psikologi penerbangan, serta dapat dijadikan rujukan dalam penyusunan kurikulum dan metode pelatihan terbang di lingkungan pendidikan penerbang.

This study aims to explore the impact of alternating flight training using single engine (SE) and multi engine (ME) aircraft on the performance of cadet pilots at the Indonesian Civil Aviation Polytechnic Curug (PPIC). The rapid transition between these two types of aircraft is believed to create cognitive and technical challenges that may affect the operational readiness of cadets. The research focuses on mental workload, skill transfer, decision-making, and instructors’ perceptions of cadet performance.
This study employed a descriptive qualitative approach, with data collected through indepth interviews, participatory observation, and document analysis, including logbooks and performance evaluation sheets. The subjects consisted of five cadets and four flight instructors who had undergone or supervised alternating SE and ME training. Data were analyzed using thematic analysis based on the Miles and Huberman model.
The results indicate that alternating SE and ME training has the potential to increase cognitive workload, particularly in checklist usage, procedural adjustments, and critical maneuvers. However, this method also accelerates the development of adaptive competencies such as situational awareness, risk management, and decision-making in a multi-tasking context. The effectiveness of the training is strongly influenced by briefing strategies, supervision quality, and the accuracy of phase transitions.
This study contributes to the development of competency-based training strategies that consider human factors and aviation psychology, and may serve as a reference in designing curricula and flight training methods in pilot education institutions.
