Abstract
Air replacement for Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) is a critical component in ensuring the safety and readiness of Airport Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF) personnel. At the Yogyakarta International Airport ARFF Unit, the air replacement process is still carried out reactively based on a drop in cylinder pressure and lacks a systematic schedule and documentation. This study aims to analyze the current conditions, identify risk factors affecting air quality, and examine efforts to improve the consistency of SCBA air replacement. This study employs a qualitative descriptive method using observation, interviews, and documentation with source triangulation. The results demonstrate that SCBA air replacement management is not yet optimal because it lacks a standardized schedule, systematic logbooks, and routine air quality testing. The identified risk factors include the condition of the compressor and filters, the refilling environment, and the duration of air storage. The novelty of this study lies in the integration of operational condition analysis and risk factors as the basis for strengthening the SCBA air replacement system through SOPs, periodic schedules, air quality testing, and maintenance documentation. The results of this study are expected to support improved personnel safety and operational readiness of the ARFF Unit.
